Anton Mobin / Benedict Taylor
Anton Mobin (Fr), independant radio producer, improviser, home taping, D.I.Y. Anton manipulator of objects and concrete music composer, works for radio, improviser experienced and fanatic field recording. Anton is always looking for new links between objects, manipulation and interaction with his own body. “A crack, a fold, a brightness, a jolt in the plan of the sound, a convexity of surface…”
Benedict Taylor (UK) is an award winning violist & composer specialising in contemporary music and improvisation. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music & Goldsmiths College, and is a leading figure within the area of contemporary string performance, at the forefront of the British & European new and improvised music scene. He performs, records and composes internationally as a soloist and ensemble performer, in the world’s leading venues and festivals, alongside working extensively as a composer within the area of contemporary dance, theatre and film. He is also the founder and artistic director of CRAM, a music collective and independent record label dedicated to new and improvised music.
Ripsaw Catfish is a new collaboration between guitarist Anton Hunter (Beats And Pieces Big Band, HAQ, Anton Hunter Trio) and Cath Roberts on baritone sax (Quadraceratops). The Manchester and London-based duo started meeting in September 2013 to explore improvised and composed music, and whatever lies between those things. The music employs a collection of pre-composed elements which can then be drawn upon, or not, during the course of an improvisation. Sometimes one of these acts as a starting point that is then deconstructed; other times one or more might emerge from the music, or else they might be omitted in favour of a fully improvised piece.
